About HUBZone Contracts

HUBZone businesses are a select group of qualified small businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to their customers, their vendors and their community.

The program encourages economic development in Historically Underutilized Business zones, or “HUBZones”.

The HUBZone program was enacted into law as part of the Small Business Reauthorization Act of 1997 and falls under the auspices of the United States Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA regulates and implements the program, determines which categories and/or business sectors are eligible to receive HUBZone contracts and maintains a listing of qualified HUBZone businesses that federal agencies can use to locate prospective vendors.

Companies conducting business with the Federal Government (directly or indirectly) are required to award business to HUBZone suppliers at a defined percentage rate. For example, in 2003 this number was 3%. Doing business with a HUBZone supplier helps companies or agencies meet their procurement goals or requirements.
